BECOMING A HOMESTAY

We invite applications from families whom live in Exeter and would like to provide accommodation for our international students whilst they are studying in Exeter. We are a long established English language school located in the heart of the city centre. Ideally, we are looking for homestays that are within easy reach of our school by bus or walking.

WHAT WE EXPECT

  • To encourage the student to speak English as much as possible in your home
  • To encourage the student to feel at home and to treat him/her as a member of the family rather than a paying guest.
  • Not to host another student of the same native language at the same time unless by special arrangement with the students and the school
  • To provide a clean and comfortable student room, meeting the requirements laid down by the British Council (we will discuss with you when we visit)
  • To provide a home environment in which it is possible for the student to carry on his/her English studies properly 
  • To provide the student with a balanced and appropriate diet 
  • To show due concern for the welfare, safety and security of the student during his/her stay 
  • To give the student reasonable and regular access to the bathroom
  • To maintain a close liaison with the student’s school and so be in a position to help resolve any problems that the student may encounter during their stay
  • To respect the student’s different cultural background and be sensitive to the needs of the student.

PAYMENT INFORMATION

You will be paid fortnightly (on Fridays) in arrears via bank transfer.

  • Students aged 16+, we pay £24 per night (£168 per week) for half-board - homestays to provide breakfast & an evening meal 7 days a week.

We take pride in providing only the best homestay experience for all our students and ensure:

  • We visit, check and verify all homestay applications thoroughly, before accepting and using them as a host
  • All homestays are aware of their Duty of Care to students staying with them and must sign our homestay code of practice document
  • All homestays must have an annual gas safety certificate (if applicable in your home), provide us with 2 references, fire risk assesement and complete our safeguarding training online course.  We also ask for photos of your family and your home
  • We ensure that our homestays hosting under 18’s have a valid  Enhanced DBS Certificate
  • We will visit our homestays annually and also keep in regular contact to check whether their circumstances have changed

To become a homestay please complete our homestay application form below.

Our Accommodation Officer will contact you to arrange a visit to your home when convenient for you both.

IMPORTANT:  Please read our information carefully, this will guide you on what is expected from you as a homestay and what our students expect too!

Once the application has been checked & verified, we will start offering you students!

INFORMATION

STAR Exeter offers Homestay accommodation for their International students. Students aged 16 years +. We are always looking for hosts who can provide a welcoming and friendly home for our students. This can be one of the most rewarding things a host can offer. Our experience has taught us that the key to a successful hosting experience is an understanding and mutual respect between the host and the student. We are expected to provide the best possible homestay experience for our students during their stay, which we know, can only be achieved with the support of our host families. The students are choosing to live in a homestay as this will give them a warm and friendly welcome, home comforts and the opportunity to practice their English with British families and learn about our culture.
